本研究では「1995年日米ECアジア国際産業関連表」(通商産業大臣官房調査統計部編)を使った資源産業の関連分析を試み、産業に特徴的な構造・波及効果について検討を行った。対象とした産業は、鉱物資源を扱う産業だけでなく、上連関表で部門分類されている鉱業部門・非鉄金属部門・石油製品部門である。結果として得られたものの中から主なものを挙げる。まず、資源産業が産業の川上に位置することを考慮して、従来の生産波及効果分析とは波及効果の流れを逆に考え、どの地域のどの産業の最終需要が伸びれば資源産業に間接的な生産の増加をもたらすのかを調べた。その結果、日本の資源産業にとって、1985年の時点ですでに、アメリカ・ECとの関係よりもアジア諸国との相互依存関係が強く、アジア諸国の動向に多くの注意を払う必要があることがわかった。また、価格波及についても分析を行った。分析課程では、資源が国際取引商品であることと、ほぼ世界一律に価格が決定されることを考慮して、輸入資源・国内資源の価格が同時に同じ割合で上昇するとした均衡式を立てた。資源価格(鉱業部門の価格)が2倍になったときの価格の波及効果は、総生産額をかけ合わせた金額に換算して、自部門を除く4地域の産業全体で7,100億ドル分の価格上昇の効果が見込まれるとの結果を得た。比較のために他の産業についても同様の計算をしたところ、この資源価格の波及効果は、一次産品・製造業の中で、もっとも他の製品価格を押し上げる効果があることがわかった。鉱業部門にはすべての資源抽出産業が含まれることを考え合わせても、資源の価格変化に経済がかなり敏感に反応すると考えられる。
