A Philological Study of Invariable Concomitance (vyapti) in Indian New Logic

We can divide into three parts the simhavyaghralaksana (the definitions of invariable comcomitance [vyapti] by Lion and Tiger) Chapter of the Tattvacintamani-rahasya (abbreviated as Rahasya) written by Mathuranatha, and this year I completed editing the Sanskrit text of the third part of the chapter, translating this part into English, and analyzing the structure of the definitions discussed in the part with the diagrams I devised. With this I have completed the present project expect constructing the text data-base for the chapter of the Rahasya and Gangesa's Tattvacintamani.I would like to mention the following two points for the conclusion of the present project : (1) The Rahasya interprets the definitions attributed to Lion and Tiger by Gangesa in terms of concepts concerning relation such as 'adhikarana' (locus), 'pratiyogin' (counterpositive), 'avacchedaka' (delimitor), and so forth. This fact corroborates my hypothesis that Navya-nyaya philosophers analize the structure of the world and various concepts in terms of relation. (2) I used a bug number of the diagrams in the report of the present project. The diagram represents the structure of a property (dharma), the property-possessor (dharmin), and their relation. The unit of these three concepts can be cardinal when we analyze the Navya-nyaya literature. Furthermore, it may similarly be important when we interpret literature of other schools of Indian Philosophy.
