静田は線型対称双曲系に対する特性的境界値問題の解が時間について強連続であることを示す際に用いる論法を整理し従来のものと比べて新らしい見通しのよい証明を得た.結果は平成8年7月アテネで開かれた第2回非線型解析国際会議で発表した.坂本は半空間におけるTricomi型方程式の境界値問題を研究し幾つかの結果を得た.宮武は2次元空間でのNavier-Stokes方程式の定常問題に関するKolmogarovの問題を考察し解の分岐を具体的な方法で示すことによって分岐曲線が分岐点において凸であることを証明した.この結果は平成9月3月リスボンで開かれた応用解析に関する国際会議で発表された.藪田は特異積分作用素について研究を行った.篠田はパーコレーションに関する新らしい結果を得て、平成8年9月に奈良女子大学数学教室で行われた非線PDE研究集会で発表した.柳沢は平成8年10月から文部省在外研究員としてヨーロッパに滞在し、特性根の多重度が一定でない場合の対称双曲系に関する結果についてイタリー及びドイツの大学に招かれて講演を行った.
