The purpose of this study is to evaluate the worth of denture in lives of the elderly and offer a concrete data for future dental treatment. For that purpose, we investigated rate and satisfaction level of denture life consciousness and dietary of denture wearers among attendants at college for the elderly in Osaka prefecture. This study was consisted of the quentionnaire and interview survey. The subjects of the queationnaire survey were all of attendants at college and the subjects of the interview survey were volunteers among them. Results are as follows ;1. The questionnaire survey : Subjects were 2474 people (1222 man and 1255 women, mean age was 66.6(]SY.+-。[)4.3 years old). Complete denture wearers were 14% in upper jaw and 10% on lower jaw, Partial denture wearers were 37% and 41% respectively. As a result about 2/3 subjects had necessity of removable denture, including people who didn't wear dentures. About self evaluation of health level, there were not significant difference among complete denture wearers general, partial denture wearers and neutral dentition group. People had higher denture satisfaction and higher score of intakable foods by wearing denture, people who selected "good" about the health condition.2. Interview survey : Subjects were 297 people (162 man and 134 women, mean age was 66.3(]SY.+-。[)4.2 years old). Mean number of present teeth was 21.7 (man : 22.3, women : 21.0) and nearly half subjects had necessity of removable denture. The sufficiency rate of energy, protein, calcium and so on have slightly difference between neutral dentition group and denture wearer group. However subjects dissatisfied with denture was significantly lower level in nutrient Intake than subjects satisfied with dentures. These results suggest that dissatisfaction with denture have detrimental effects to health condition of elderly.
