Impact of oral functional and inflamatory factors on the incidence of metabolic syndrome

This study assessed the relationship between oral health and general health in a Japanese urban population. Below results were found; 1. Decrease of occlusal support related to obesity relating feeding behaviors. 2. Periodontal disease affected masticatory performance not only occlusion was established by natural dentition but also if occlusal support decreased. 3. Decline of masticatory performance related to atherosclerosis. 4. There was an additive relationship between oral health disorders and risk of hypertension.
