埼玉県立伊奈学園総合高校の評価にかかわる研究は、我々の手により、文部省科学研究費の助成により既に一度なされている(平成4〜5年度総合研究(A)「伊奈学園総合高等学校をモデルとした総合選択制の有効性に関する実証的研究」、代表者:佐古順彦)。今回の調査研究は前回の補足的研究であると同時に、従来の質問紙的研究から脱却した調査手法の開発を含め、更なる新しい学校モデルのアカウンタビリティー研究を一歩押し進めたわけである。昨年は、ハウス制という制度が登校している生徒達にどの程度定着しているか認知地図的手法によって、自己のハウスの位置、他のハウスの位置の認知の相対的関係を明らかにした。更に今年度は教師側のコミュニケーションの様態を基軸に伊奈学園固有のシステムが教師集団にどのような結果を残しているか、人類学的手法からの長期的観察から考察した。また一方で、人間形成の観点から力を入れているキャリアガイダンスのシステムの評価を、これは伝統的調査技法を用いて行なった。
