1人の女児を対象とし、2歳から6歳の誕生日ごとに1日観察を行ったビデオ録画資料から女児の言語およびコミュニケーション上意味のある非言語行動をすべて書き起こすと同時に、女児に対する入力言語(非言語的やりとりも含む)も書き起こした。その中から対象女児が経験する1日の言語入力、相互作用、産出語彙について分析する作業を進めた。また、このデータを将来的には多くの研究者で共有可能とするために、JCHAT方式によるコーディング(Oshima-Takane & MacWhinney, 1995) を行っている。就学前の子どもに見られる感覚・感情語の獲得に焦点を当て、これらの語がどのような相互作用の中で獲得されていくのかを検討した。語彙獲得については、それぞれの語のもっている特性によって、異なる獲得のメカニズムが働くと考えることができるだろう。事物名称や動作に関する語の獲得と、感覚・感情語の獲得過程は異なることが考えられ、これらの外的指示を媒介とした獲得が想定できない語に関しては、日常の中で反復される相互作用の文脈が語の使用に関する情報を提供することになっているといえるだろう。1事例の限界を補う意味で、ほぼ同一の条件の中で記録が取られている大久保データ(大久保(1983)におけるこれらの語の出現やそこでの相互作用のパターンについて検討した。両者はかなり共通性が高く、2歳から4歳の子どもの語彙獲得に関する示唆を与えるものといえるだろう。
