Economic-Security nexus in East Asia and Western Europe

以下是我们对东亚和西欧经济-安全关系集体研究的主要成果。(1)理论维度：我们构建了一个理论模型：一体化-安全治理模型。在此过程中，我们修正了Kinderberger的霸权稳定模型和Ernst Hass的新功能主义，将两者与全球化变量相结合。(2)经济维度：对东亚和东南亚的大量统计数据进行了产业投入产出分析。我们还逐个部门地考察了跨国公司在区域经济一体化中的作用，并与西欧的相关数据进行了比较，进而检验了现有的东亚/东南亚经济一体化理论。(3)政治维度：一方面，我们承认中国的政治是巨大的/困难的，这是在东亚和西欧两个区域构思任何一体化项目的主要区别。另一方面，通过对中国加入世贸组织及其安全观念转变的积极经济和政治影响的肯定分析，我们得出结论：中国完全可以处于东亚区域一体化的地位。

The following are the main results of our collective research project on the Economic-Security nexus in East Asia and Western Europe.(1) The Theoretical Dimension: We have constructed a theoretical model: the Integration-Security Governance Model. In so doing we modified the Hegemonic Stability Model of Kinderberger and Neo-Functionalism of Ernst Hass, by combining these two with the variable of Globalization.(2) The Economic Dimension: The industrial input-output analysis has been applied to the massive amount of statistical data as regards East and Southeast Asia. We also examined - sector by sector, and in comparison with the relevant data on Western Europe - the functions of multinational firms in relation to regional economic integration, and went on to test the existing theories on East/Southeast Asian economic integration.(3) The Political Dimension: On the one hand, we have acknowledged the enormity/difficulty of the polity of China, which constitutes the major difference in conceiving any integrative project in the two regions: East Asia and Western Europe. On the other hand, however, we have concluded that China can well be situated in East Asian regional integration, by affirmatively analyzing the positive implications-economic and political - of China's WTO membership and the transformation of its security conceptions.
