高校教育改革は、著しい閉塞状況にある。本研究では、事態を打開するヒントを〈ホリスティックな知〉のアイデアに見出し、しかも具体的な実践と臨床的・批判的にかかわりながらオルタナティブなあり方を模索することとした。研究をベースとしたネットワーキングの第一段階として、大阪府立松原高等学校との共同作業を展開した。数多くの実践の参与観察と卒業生を対象とする質問紙調査によって、ホリスティックな高校づくりの可能性をたどった。主な知見は、以下の通りである。第一に、とりわけクラス開きとホームルーム合宿を中心に展開される入学直後のイニシエーションは、高校生の自尊感情の回復を可能にするだけではなく、信頼とコミュニケーションを学校空間に創り上げるきっかけとなっている。第二に、そこで中核に据えられるのは、啓蒙主義の名の下に教育社会が排除し切り捨ててきた「負の側面」である。しかもそこを基点としながら自己や他者との関係が織りなされていった。第三に、「負の側面」の尊重は教師の自己変容をも促すものとなったが、その中でどれだけ深く覚醒していくかは個々の教師によって大きく異なった。したがって、教師集団内に下位文化が生じることは避けられなかった。とはいえ、それでも関係を紡ぐという視点で教師間の絆を創造していく試みは粘り強くなされていった。第四に、卒業生の回答は、こうした高校の取り組みが外部社会においてもきわめて有益であることを物語っていた。とはいえ、一元的な意味での学力保障とどこまで両立可能であるかを検証することや他の高校での実践に松原高校での取り組みがいかにして活かされていくかということを問う二とが未解決のまま残された。この点は、今後の課題としたい。
