项目摘要

視覚的注意とそれに関わる行動の基本的メカニズムの解明を目指し、主に外的環境が突然変化したり、無視した刺激に対して次の段階では注意を向けなければならないように変化するときの特性を検討した。実験的な検討をするために扱う現象は、変化の見落とし、反復の見落とし、負のプライミングなど、認知心理学的に注目されている現象である。変化の見落としは、情景切り替えにおいて、切り替え前後の情景の大きな違いも見落としてしまう現象であり、ギスト(Gist)やレイアウトといわれる視覚的な構えと密接な関係があると考えられる。ギストとは、分割撹絆されると失われる情景の抽象的意味であり、変化の見落としに影響を与えることを明らかにした。反復の見落としは、時空間的に反復されるオブジェクトが見落とされる現象であり、時空間的処理単位を判断する材料になりうるので、反復の見落としの時空間特性を実験的に明らかにした。負のプライミングは、継続して提示される視覚刺激において、最初は無視した刺激が次の提示では目標に変化するときに、事前に無視したことが影響して、判断を遅らせる現象であるが、この現象が一般に言われている干渉効果と関連することを実験的に明らかにした。これらの実験結果は、人間の視覚情報処理の時空間的な限界があることを示すと共に、実際には捨て去られていると感じられる情報が実はその後の処理に様々な影響を及ぼしていることを示している。人間を理解するためには、このような部分の分析が今後とも重要である。今後は、実験課題を突然変えたときの行動の混乱要因を見極めようとする課題切り替えの研究などの実験パラダイムを組み合わせることによって、視覚的注意とそれに関わる行動の基本的メカニズムを明らかにする。
