留学生にとって専門用語の習得が時として困難なことがある。そのとき専門用語に使用されている語種に漢語や和語が多いという短絡的理由で、つまり「日本語の問題だ」と片づけてしまうのは危険である。なぜかというと専門的な知識と言語構造は密接に関係し、専門の分野と日本語教育が有機的に関連しあわなければならないからである。前年度は、専門分野に特徴的な図式、すなわち基本となる出来事と出来事の関連構造(以下、出来事構造)がその和語からなる専門用語の語構造に大いに関係するという結論をみた。今年度は、専門分野の出来事構造が漢語用語にどのように反映されているかという観点から研究を進めた。取り扱った専門分野は図書館情報学である。この学問は前身の図書館学に情報分野の用語を大きく取り入れ、結果的に和語用語がかなり減少した分野であり、研究の対象としては最適な条件を有している。方法は漢字用語がもつ概念を単漢字がもつ単概念の合成として捉え、出現回数の高い単漢字、単概念がその分野で重要な事柄であると見なした。そしてその単概念を含む用語を抽出した。抽出された用語は予測どおりある程度お互いに関連性があることが確認された。さらに専門的な立場から区別が必要な用語は同じ単概念を有し、かつ同じ語構造を持っていると見なした。専門用語の頻度をもとにその専門の特徴づけを行うという先行研究や調査では重要語句や概念をうかがい知ることができるが、本研究でも単漢字がもつ単概念の統計からそれが可能で、さらにその単概念の合成概念とその構造から動的な関連語句を抽出することができるという結論に達した。このような言語分析結果は単に「日本語の問題」として専門の分野からないがしろにされ、また日本語教育が入り込めなかった領域が、日本語を学びながら専門を履修しなければならない留学生にとって有意義なものであるということを暗示するものであろう。
