平成13年度においては,「自己参照効果により知識獲得(学習や教育)が促進される基礎的な条件を実験的に明らかにする」ことを目的とした研究を行った.その結果,実験室的な記憶研究の場面において用いられる自己参照の手続き(「自分にあてはまる程度を評価しなさい」など)をそのままあてはめても効果がない,参加者の意欲低下が報告された(馬鹿馬鹿しい,意味がない,面倒だ).そこで,平成14年度には,「社会的参照」との比較を行った.社会的参照の手続きとしては,「この知識は社会的に関連のあるもの(社会生活をおくるのに必要とか)ですか」を用いた.実験の結果,自己参照と同程度の記憶促進効果が認められた.直後再生と遅延再生(1週間後)の比較の結果も自己参照効果とさほど変わりなかった.ただし,参加者の内省報告に,「評価の作業が楽だった」というものと逆に「評価の作業がよく分からない,困難だった」というものがあった.このことは,ある特性や性向を持つ人には社会的参照が効果的な学習方法となりうる可能性があり,逆にある特性や性向の人にはうまく機能しない可能性があることを示唆しているだろう.この点に注目して今後の検討を進める(特にその違いが生まれる認知処理過程)ならば,応用の利く教授法の開発の一助になる可能性がある.そのあたりを今後の課題としたい.
