本研究の課題である「品位ある社会」概念の政治理論的考察に関して、今年度は以下の三点を中心として研究を遂行した。1.昨年度のバーリン研究を通じて確認された課題、すなわち自由主義研究における第三の問題領域の検討を行い、政治思想学会2005年度研究大会においてその成果を報告した。バーリンにおける「精神の自由」の問題は、彼の自由主義における「リベラルな善の構想」として再構成が可能である。価値の多元性と両立不可能性に伴う悲劇的選択の存在は、自己の完全なる統合性という理想の原理的不可能性を示している。そうした人間の境涯に対して、バーリンは「悲劇の両義的性格」の認識を通じた「多様性の了解」および「自己の肯定」の道を示す。この倫理的態度は、寛容思想の歴史的転換という主題を通じて政治的構想へと昇華可能である。A・ホネットやC・テイラーといった、いわゆる「承認の政治」論者とは異なり、バーリンはアイデンティティ問題の個人主義的解決を志向しつつ、基礎的ニーズの充足および社会経済的不平等の是正をそれとは区別したかたちで押し進める「品位ある社会」の構想を提示している。2.学会誌『政治思想研究』第6号(2006年5月発行)にて研究成果の一部を公表した。本論文は、上述の学会報告に寄せられた意見・批判をもとに論旨を再検討し、論文として提出したものである。3.品位ある社会の政策的指標をなすニーズ理論についてさらに考察を進めた。しかし、A.センの理論は自由主義の基本原理と両立可能なニード理論という観点からは評価できるものの、上述のアイデンティティの問題を十分に包摂しているとは言いがたい。また、昨年度の研究成果からも判るように、センの自由論は、先進国の社会福祉政策に応用された場合に個人のプライヴァシーと衝突する、という問題を解決していない。この問題をさらに探求するためには、N.フレイザーとA・ホネットの論争「再分配か承認か」を手がかりとして、これと現代自由主義との関係を考察する必要があると思われる。

This research topic is related to the investigation of the concept of "grade society" and political theory. This year, the following three points are the center of research. 1. Social policy indicators for quality and quality A. The theory of liberalism is very important. The research results of the past year have been used to solve the problems of individual conflict and social welfare policy in advanced countries. This issue is the need to examine the relationship between social liberalism and redistribution.
