项目摘要

今年度の研究成果は二点ある。ピエール・コルネイユの演劇理論を、彼が理論家に対抗するべく拠り所とした公衆の概念を軸として分析したこと。第二に、『シンナ』において展開される議論が、当時の一般的な歴史知識の所在を考慮しながら構築されていることを明らかにしたことである。従来の研究は、コルネイユの劇理論と創作を一貫した静的な相のもとで捉えている。しかし本研究では、1637年の「ル・シッド論争」から1660年の体系的な劇理論の完成に至るまで、コルネイユが、実践とは必ずしも連動させずに理論的考察を深化させたこと、逆にそれ以降の彼の劇作術は、自分の理論から制約を受けたことの証明を目指した。具体的には、悲劇の題材となる古代史に関するコルネイユの理論が、同時代の公衆が保持する知識を次第に重視するというレトリック的な側面を有することを指摘した。その結果、1660年以降のコルネイユ悲劇において、人口に膾灸した史実が常に主題として選択される理由を解明できた。『シンナ』は作者自身認めるほど弁論術を駆使した悲劇であり、他方、元になった挿話が当時の公衆にとって親しい主題であることから、本研究の問題意識を適用する格好の題材である。この悲劇で展開される多くの議論は、主として政治的側面から捉えられることが多いが、本研究では、共和制から君主制へと至る歴史の解釈が、一連の議論のテーマとして存在することを明らかにした。君主制の確立の礼賛で幕を閉じる点に関して、絶対主義イデオロギーの反映という従来の見解で満足することなく、コエフトーなど当時の公衆が親しんでいたローマ史書の記述でその後の幸福な歴史が語られているために、つまり、公衆に違和感を抱かせる恐れがないために、神意の加護の元にある歴史の予言という終わり方をコルネイユが選択できたことを証明した。以上の研究成果を、以下に記載した二本の論文の中で発表した。
