本研究課題は3年間の計画である。本年度は初年度目にあたり、研究課題に関連する諸問題を明らかにするとともに、研究組織内でこうした諸問題を共有し、研究の基盤を整備することに努めた。美学と弁論術に関連する問題を概括すると同時に、演劇学と弁論術との関係について焦点を当てて、合計２回の研究会を開催した。8月27日に１回目の研究会を開催し、渡辺浩司が「美学と弁論術」というタイトルで研究課題の問題点を示し、井上由里子が演劇の観点から身体表現とレトリックについて発表した。また12月18日の２回目の研究会では、桑原俊介先生（上智大学）を招聘し、近代美学の観点から弁論術と美学の関係について講演していただいた。これら２回の研究会で、美学と弁論術の関係における歴史的理論的な諸問題が浮かび上がった。これらは研究成果としてはまだ発表されていないが、次年度から順次発表していく予定である。また16世紀の思想に多大な影響を与え、20世紀においてもパノフスキーによって着目されたキケローの『弁論家』の一部（33節から49節まで）を渡辺浩司が翻訳し公開した。演劇学と弁論術の関係については、日常の身体と演劇の身体の違いについて井上由里子が国際学会で１回、国内の学会で１回、研究発表を行った。日常の弁論術的な規則的硬直的な身体運動から、演劇・ダンスの運動による解放を通して、演劇的な自然本来の身体活動へと転化する様が明らかにされたとともに、逆に日常の身体の運動の背後にも脆さがあることが指摘された。また演劇学と弁論術の関係については、井上由里子が6本の論文を、田之頭一知が１本の論文を公表した。
