项目摘要

本年度行った研究活動は以下のようなものである。昨年、および一昨年に引き続き、印欧祖語の研究を行う際に重要である、基本的な文献の収集を引き続き行った。本年度は、昨年・一昨年に収集し切れなかった文献についてリストを作成し、研究費をその購入に充てた。昨年度購入したTLG(Thesaurus Linguae Graecae)プロジェクトの提供しているCD-ROMは、ホメロスから15世紀にいたる古典ギリシア語期から中世ギリシア語期までの、これまでに所在が確認されているギリシア語テクストが、計算機から容易に使用可能な形でほぼすべて収録されているという非常に利用価値の高いコーパスであるが、これを利用した研究方法についての模索を行った。テクストは電子化することによって統計的な処理や用例の検索を非常に容易に行うことが可能になるため、韻律の調査や単語の使用頻度、また単語の使用が年代によってどのような変遷を経るかという問題についての研究が非常に容易になる。TLGのフォーマットは単なるテクストファイルではなく、やや特殊なフォーマットによっており、検索や統計処理を行う際には、ある程度その目的のためのツールを作成することが必要になるため、テクスト処理と計算機言語について学習をする必要があった。上とは別に、受け入れ研究所の東京外国語大学アジアアフリカ言語文化研究所でCOE研究として行われているGICASプロジェクトに関連した作業やデータの電子化、およびインターネット上での公開などの作業を通じて、電子化されたデータの取り扱いや、利用の手法のついての研究を行う貴重な機会を得た。それらの作業の成果は、現在インターネット上で誰によっても利用可能な形で公開されており、以下のURLから参照可能である。ORBS http://www.gicas.jp/ORBS/SARVA http://www.aa.tufs.ac.jp/sarva/これ以外に、「表記の習慣のない言語の表記」と題する書籍の編集作業を、アジアアフリカ言語文化研究所の塩原朝子助教授の下で分担した。この書籍の編集に関して、特殊な文字が多用される書籍の性格から、多様な文字での表記について知見を深めることができた。また、この書籍には「文字を持たない言語と計算機」と題する小論を寄稿した。
