本研究では,3つの表象操作課題を用いて,幼児の表象操作の発達過程,特に,複数の心的表象の統合が何歳ぐらいから可能になるのかという観点に焦点を当てて分析検討する。具体的には,本研究の目的は,心理実験手法を用いて,幼児期において複数の心的表象を統合して利用可能になる発達プロセスを明らかにした上で,幼児の表象操作の特徴を自閉症など臨床データとの関連性の中で比較検討し,表象操作の発達に関する統合的モデルを構築することであった。特に,本年度は,これまでの実験データを整理した上で,臨床的なデータとの比較検討から,発達モデルの構築を行った。この2年間の実験データからは,6歳頃になると,ほとんどの子どもが2つの表象を統合した表象を形成することができるようになることが明らかになった。しかしながら,まだ表象の統合が十分にできない3歳児や4歳児に対して,どのような手がかりを与えると表象の統合が促進されるのかについては,本研究では明らかにできなかった。これらの実験データからは,3歳頃に,単一表象の単独表象操作,4歳頃に,複数表象の単独表象操作,5歳頃に,複数表象の統合的表象操作,という仮説的な発達モデルを導くことができるであろう。また,このモデルを,自閉症児や言語に遅れを持つ子どもを対象とした研究データとつきあわせてみると,自閉症の場合,知的障害を伴わない場合でも表象操作は困難であること,及び,音声言語には障害があるが,手話発話が可能な子どもでは表象操作に困難が見られないことも多いことから,表象操作の発達には言語能力が強く関連していることが示唆される。一方,最近では表象操作と認知抑制とよばれる心的機能が関連しているという実験データも示されており,本研究で示した仮説的発達モデルが,どこまでを説明できるのかさらに検討する必要がある。
