本研究の目的は,算数問題解決における相互教授法を開発し,その効果について検討することでであった。まず,算数文章題の解決能力を評価する方法として,文章題分類課題について実験的に検討した。文章題分類課題は,算数文章題の4つの解決段階のうち統合段階を査定することが可能であると考えられている。そこで,小学校5年生を対象にして,目標(質問文)明示が文章題分類課題の成績に影響するかどうかを実験的に検討した。その結果,文章題分類課題の成績には,目標明示の効果が見られないことが明らかになった。Okamoto ＆ Iuchi(準備中)によれば,算数文章題を実際に解く文章題解決テストでは,目標明示の効果が検証されているので,今回の実験に用いたタイプの文章題分類課題では,算数文章題の解決能力が評価できないといえよう。次に,メタ認知を訓練する相互教授法の効果について,文献的な検討を行った。その結果,メタ認知が,領域固有知識や一般的方略と並んで,知的能力の構成要素であることが示され,特に,これらの3つの構成要素を学習者間で共有させる方法として,相互教授法が有効であることを明らかにした。加えて,相互教授法のように教室内での学習にとどまらない学習コミュニティの形成が,子どもの算数問題解決能力の向上に有効ではないかと示唆された。
