项目摘要

一九の本領が滑稽本にあるということで、一九の戯謔といえば滑稽本の戯謔性ばかりが問題にされ、彼の黄表紙そのものは-幼稚な教訓性が顕著だと言われる中で-未だ充分に考察されずにいる。しかし彼の前期戯作活動の豊富な資料である黄表紙、しかも一番の多作者に名乗りをあげる程人気を得ていた黄表紙を検討し、そこに表れた教訓性と滑稽性の釣り合いについて考察すれば、単に教訓性云々に止まらず、一九の戯作者としての特質を理解する上に、一つの手掛かりが得られるのではないだろうか。従って、教訓性と滑稽性両面に焦点を絞りつつ、一九に先行する戯作者達の動向、一九周辺の戯作者達の動向を先ず見ていきたい。滑稽性を本意とする黄表紙がどのように教訓性を受け入れているか、その様相を辿ってみた。自作の目新しい趣向として当世性を付与するために自ら積極的に教訓性を収容した感がある作品が芝全交によって書かれる。しかし、教訓的作意で理に墜ちてしまい、滑稽性皆無の生真面日な作品になってしまった。市場通笑の場合、最初は自分の様々なテーマの中の一つに過ぎなかった教訓が、廻りの評価に影響された形で、生涯のテーマになる。最初から教訓性を自分の内に秘める体質のようなものとして持っていた者もいる。曲亭馬琴と十返舎一九がこれに属するだろう。しかし、倫理道徳を創作のテーマにし、それをあからさまな言辞で表明する馬琴と、単純明快な教訓性を謳いながらも、常に滑稽性を主に置いていた一九とは自ずから教訓に対する色彩を異にする。
