1.研究経過外国語としての教授頻度が上がりつつあるベトナム語において、電子計算機やWWWを活用した教材の開発を行なうこととした。従来の教授方法では浸透させることが困難であった「現地の感覚」を画像や映像によって把握させる教材を目指すこととした。ベトナム国内外で出版された紙媒体の教材、CD教材などを分析し、「何を」「どこまで」を習得させるのか、すなわち到達目標とその実現へのアプローチについて教授経験の長い研究者と意見交換を繰り返し、研究の基盤にした。2.研究実績ベトナム語の教材、自習書について、その構成や内容を研究した。ひと口に自習書といっても、取り扱う事項や解説方法には大きな差異があり、それは執筆者の言語観を反映している。が、紙数の制限で、「何がどう違うのか」という学習者の疑問に答え切れていない、練習問題の質および量に難ある、という課題が見出された。一方で、既にベトナム国内外で公表された電子計算機を使用するベトナム語教材、音声資料の付属した教材は、テキスト音読のCD化に留まる程度のもの、音声言語の習得状況を簡便に測定する機能がついた教材がある程度であった。そこで、基礎レベルの学習を了した学習者を対象に、文法と語彙を具体例に即して学ぶことが出来るように電子教材を開発した。開発教材は講義でも試用し、問題点をフィードバックした。この教材は、-「いつでも」「どこでも」さらに「何度でも」自分で学習する-を基本方針にした教材である。
