项目摘要

本研究は、有珠山をとりまく地域のアイヌ社会、および本州からの移住者社会のなかで得られた民俗学的情報を地域ごと、時代ごとに整理、比較分析し、人々の文化的営みのなかに表象される過去の災害像、有珠山周辺地域の環境像を明らかにし、さらにその新たな知見をこれまでの自然科学、社会科学の側からの災害研究と照合し、矛盾点を発見・整理することにより、有珠山噴火災害をめぐる地域環境史の構築にむけての方法論・見通しを示すものである。平成17年度は、過去2年間の研究成果を踏まえ、以下の活動を行った。第一に、活火山周辺地域と非火山周辺地域という比較の視点から、非火山地域である紀伊半島、岩手県早池峰山麓において、各地の生活史と民俗のデータを収集し、その違いの傾向についての分析を行った。第二に、上記の分析から、火山と民俗芸能の関係性という着眼点に注目し、岩手県岩手山周辺地域、伊豆大島、八丈島において民俗芸能の種類と分布、およびその伝承状況についてのデータを集め、また、過去に調査を行った長崎県島原半島、鹿児島県桜島周辺地域、福島県磐梯山周辺地域などでの同様のデータと統合した結果、火山と民俗芸能の関係性の一端について、仮説を構築する段階にある。これら全国における火山地域の生活史と民俗に関するデータを北海道の有珠山をとりまく状況と比較検討し、上記の研究目的に沿った分析を展開したところ、有珠山噴火災害をめぐる地域環境史の構築にむけての一定の方法論・見通しを得るに至った。以上の研究成果は、今後随時、雑誌論文等で発表していく予定である。
