日本企業の国際競争力について事業システムの観点から分析を進めた。1)定性的調査デジタルスチルカメラ(DSC)産業の完成品企業、部品企業、設計企業に二つの観点からインタビュー調査を行った。一つは、部品事業をどのように考えているかをインタビューした。DSC産業の完成品企業は単なる組み立て企業ではなく、レンズユニット、イメージセンサ(CCDやCMOS)、イメージプロセッサ、液晶パネル、バッテリーなどを生産している企業が多い。(1)それらの部品事業を完成品事業との関係、(2)今後いままで保有していなかった部品事業領域の2点について、どのように考えているかをインタビューした。もう一つは、研究開発、製品設計、製造のそれぞれの活動について、どのように考えているか調査した。これらの調査で、日本企業の事業構造を大きく二つに分類することができた。一つは、部品事業を深く掘り下げ、領域も拡大しようとし、研究開発にも積極的で、製品設計と製造を自社で行おうとする垂直統合型の事業システムを追及する企業である。もう一つは、いまある部品事業を深く掘り下げるが、領域を拡大しようとせず、研究開発や製品設計、製造を製品ランナップごとに事業構造を適合させようとする垂直統合型と水平分業型を折衷した事業システムである。2)定量的調査日本市場の店頭価格情報とシェア推移をもとに、個別企業が持続的に競争優位を獲得しようとするとき、市場の要請はどこにあるのかを明らかにした。この分析で、製品ラインナップのダイナミックな切り替えを継続的に実施することが重要であることがわかった。1)2)を通して、どちらかの事業システムが優れているのではなく、製品ラインナップのダイナミックな切り替えを継続的に実施できるように、自社が保有する資源に合った事業システムを選択している企業が競争力を持つようである。世界市場での分析を積み重ね、本研究の発見事項を再確認したい。
