本研究は,ヤジュルヴェーダサンヒター冒頭のマントラ(祭詞,祝詞)集成とそのブラーフマナ(マントラの解釈,意義付けと神学議論)のローマ字テキスト作成,翻訳と注解,並びに分析を行い,ヴェーダ祭式における穀物祭の本祭前日に成される準備儀礼について全容を解明することを目的として出発した。内容は「放牧」「敷き草刈り」「搾乳と酸乳製造」という3つの表題に分けられ,研究全体は「総論」「テキスト」「翻訳」「各論」の4部構成を取る。本年度は「搾乳と酸乳製造」の「各論」後半部分に着手し,酸乳製造の由来を伝えるタイッティリーヤサンヒターII5,シャタパタブラーフマナI6,4と,他派に対応のないマントラを集めたタイッティリーヤブラーフマナIII7,4以上の文献箇所のテキスト作成と翻訳・注解を行った。これらの箇所は文献成立史と祭式の整備過程を解明する重要な典拠となる。しかし,それ故に一つの単語の意味を確定するのにも細心の注意を払わねばならない。また,各文献におけるマントラの扱いに関しては,後代の儀規文献(シュラウタスートラ)への展開の跡付けにもつながる問題を孕んでいる。中でも,先に挙げたタイッティリーヤブラーフマナIII7,4のマントラの殆どは,タイッティリーヤ派から分派した一学派であるアーパスタンバ派のシュラウタスートラにしか採用されていない。当該箇所を,ヴェーダ文献全体の歴史という大きな枠組みから検討し直す必要のあることも明らかになった。本研究を通じ,タイッティリーヤ派とヴァージャサネーイン派とがヴェーダ祭式を大きく転換させる原動力となったことが更に明らかとなった。それは,両派より古層にあるマイトラーヤニーヤ派,カタ派の議論が前提となっていることは明らかである。その過程の解明には,ヤジュルヴェータ学派全体のマントラ集とヴラーフマナとの精査が必要不可欠である。
