项目摘要

コウノトリの野生復帰事業が進展する兵庫県但馬地方で、コウノトリの「語り」を聞き取る調査を実施してきた。「語り方」を解析して、自然再生のシンボル種であるコウノトリを語ることによって人と自然の日常的な関係性の多元的な諸相が析出された。これは(1)地域性によるのか、(2)コウノトリという種の特徴によるのか、という問題関心に基づき、愛媛県西予市のコウノトリ、新潟県佐渡市のトキ、北海道釧路市のタンチョウの聞き取り調査を実施した。2006年にコウノトリが飛来した西予市では、人とコウノトリの行動圏が交差しており、コウノトリを通して地域を見直す活動が見られた。昨年度の調査と同様、「地域の鳥」として語られているが、多元的に語られなかった。コウノトリと暮らしてきた歴史性に欠ける地域では、「語り方」が異なっている。給餌人を中心に聞き取りを実施した釧路市では、昨年度と同様に「家の鳥」としてタンチョウが語られる特徴が見られた。作物を荒らす、人や物に危害を加えるという語りもあり、給餌しているタンチョウが畑を荒らすと「ウチのツルがすいません」といった語りも出てくる。釧路湿原に生息地が移動する繁殖期には、人とタンチョウのかかわりは一端切れてしまい、この時期のタンチョウは家族化されることはない。かかわりが冬期に集中するためか、タンチョウを通して人と自然の関係性が語られることや地域を見直す語りもほとんどなかった。このように、給餌活動というかかわりの有無、物理的・精神的距離によって、意味づけが変容する。コウノトリは「地域の鳥」、タンチョウは「家の鳥」という「語り方」に違いは、(1)人間の働きかけ(給餌活動など)と空間の意味という社会学的側面と、(2)鳥の生態から考えることができる。コウノトリは通年、人の日常空間を行動圏とするが、タンチョウは越冬期は給餌され、私有地を行動圏とする。繁殖期は釧路湿原という「公」の空間を行動圏とし、コウノトリに見られた私と公の間にある曖昧な空間をあまり行動圏としない。私と公に分断されたタンチョウと比較すると、コウノトリを「語る」ことは、相対的に人の日常生活と重なる自然を語ることにつながる。自然の象徴という同じ価値が付与された生物でも、生息域や行動の違い、かかわりの歴史性などによって、「語り方」が異なり、表象される自然も異なる。再生すべき自然は、多くの場合、生物によって象徴される。本研究に従えば、どの生物を取り上げるかによって、自然のイメージも異なってくる。自然の再生イメージ像の構築に向けて、どの生物をどのように語るのか、その「語り方」が問われるが、人と生物の行動圏が交差する空間とそこに生息する生物の意味を分析的に論じることが、今後の課題である。環境社会学と生態学を融合した視点が求められる。
