本研究は経済学実験的手法を用い、被験者が自分で行ったタスクから得られる稼得を再分配する状況での個人の報酬再分配に対する選好を検証するものである,被験者は全員同じ数と内容の計算問題を解くなどのタスクを与えられ、その成果に伴って報酬を与えちれる。被験者には成果によって報酬にばらつきが出ることを説明し、参加者の報酬の何割かを一律徴収して報酬再分配に充てる事ができるならどれだけを再分配に充てるのが望ましいかの選好を訪ねる。選好はタスクについての情報がない時点、タスクを終了ししかしその結果については知らされていない時点、タスクの結果である個人の報酬と再分配め結果が明らかになった時点の3つの時点で調査を行った。本研究の結果の一部は欧米で行われた過去の類似の研究の成果を追認するものであるがそれ以外に幾つか興味深い結果が確認された。例えばタスクは終了したがその結果や自分の相対的な稼得水準がまだ知らされず、そのために再分配による報酬の増減が分からない段階において、難易度が低い課題が与えられた場合、あるいは難易度が同じでも課題の量が少ない場合、それ自体が相対的な報酬ひいては再分配による損得に影響しないにもかかわらず低水準の再分配が選好されるという傾向が見られた。これは相対的な報酬水準の見込みが再分配水準め選好についての意思決定には重要であるが、被験者は必ずしもそれを適切に判断できず、些細な要因で見込みを揺らがせてしまうことを意味する。これは現実の社会で社会調査や投票によって示される報酬再分配の水準の選好表明が景気見通しなどに容易に影響されて安定しないという傾向を生みうることを示唆する。近年の格差社会に対する世論の関心の高さはこのような要因によっても説明されうる。詳細な内容は専門誌に投稿予定である。
