研究課題である小売業態の相対性の理論的・実証的分析を行うために、本年度は主に3つの活動を行った。それは第一に、小売業態概念に関連する理論をレビューするという作業である。この理論レビューにおいては、小売業態論に関するレビューはもちろんのこと、小売業態概念自体を直接扱っていなくても、小売業のビジネスモデルなどを扱った研究も含めてレビューすることにより、この作業に深みをもたせるよう試みた。第二に、現実の小売業者が業態概念をどのようにとらえているのかを分析するという作業である。特に、日本の百貨店や日本国内で特異的な活動を行っている小売業の調査を行い、それらの企業が自社の経営戦略を通して小売業態という概念をどのようにとらえているのかを分析するという作業を行った。第三に、小売業と関わりのある業界の方にヒアリングを行うことにより、業界外の企業人が小売業態をどのようにとらえているのかを考察するという作業を行った。この業界外の企業としては、情報関連企業、金融業、製造業、卸売業などが含まれる。現在は、これら3つの作業をまとめていくことによって、相対的小売業態概念の理論構築の手がかりをつかもうとしている。また、当該概念の実践的インプリケーションを抽出する作業を継続的に行っている。今後は、本年度に行った活動を研究論文としてまとめる作業を行い、学会誌等に掲載するとともに、関連学会(日本商業学会、経営史学会など)で報告していきたいと思う。
