本研究は、高齢者向け生涯講座の修了生のその後を追跡し、生涯学習講座修了後の社会活動と、修了者自身の生き甲斐やQOLなどとの関連を把握することを目的とするものである。調査は、M県内にある高齢者(60歳以上)向けの生涯学習講座をフィールドとした。この講座では、修了後、同窓会組織だけでなく、修了生の自発的なサークル活動に対して場所・人的資源の提供など支援を積極的に行っている。19年度の主な結果は以下の通りであった。(1)講座修了後の社会活動への参加は高く、(2)昨年度と同様、社会活動の積極的な者ほど、生を甲斐感や生活満足感が高い傾向にある、(3)高齢者が主催・参加できる社会活動が高齢者の意欲に反していまだ限られており、今後の活動のあり方が課題の一つとして浮かび上がってきている、(4)高齢者が主催する社会活動へ参加した子どもや若者たちは、概ねその活動内容を評価しており、また高齢者に対する良い印象を持つ傾向にあった。これまでの研究をまとめると、高齢者自身は、これまでの経験を生かして社会との接点を持ちたい、社会の資源でありたいという気持ちを持っている。社会活動の時間・場所の提供をすることで、高齢者は積極的に次世代への働きかけを行い、また自分のQOLを高める傾向にある。そして、この活動は下の世代の高齢者観も変化させるきっかけとなっているようである。今後、日本は高齢者が増加し、高齢化社会へと向かいつつある。多くの高齢者を資源としていかに活用できるかが、今後の課題といえよう。
