In a two-year research period, the investigators have conducted firsthand observations at the Institutional Research offices in the State University of New York at Albany, the University of Washington at Seattle in the United States, the University of Sydney in Australia, and the Annual Forum of the European Association for Institutional Research in Rome, Italy.Institutional Research (IR) is a range of activities on management information collection, analysis of data and reporting in higher education institutions. Today, IR in the universities of the United States, Australia and European countries has become a solid foundation for quick decision-making and smooth management of an organization. In the fluctuating higher education sector, IR provides a broad range of service and detailed assistance.Throughout the empirical examination on data-driven educational improvement system supported by IR, certain organizational cooperation within institutions was revealed. Through the careful coordination of three major functions, namely, "data collecting, analyzing, and reporting (IR) ", "planning and evaluation", and "professional development for teaching and learning", universities in the United States use a bottom-up approach to improve the undergraduate curriculum. Planning and implementation of "the Course Experience Questionnaire" which has a close relation with the quality assurance of teaching occupies an important place in IR activities in Australian universities.Based on these findings, the research team published one book "Tips senseino curriculum design (The curriculum design by Mr. Tips) "and three scientific papers on data-driven learning and teaching improvement in the universities. In addition, the investigators provided two research presentations at the convention of the Japan Society for Educational System and Organization.
