幼稚園の4,5歳児が好きな遊びを選んだ活動のなかで、リテラシーに関心をもち、自発的に解読したり、書いたりしていることがわかった。この幼児自らの学びを教師は教具などをふくむリテラシー環境を整えて意図的に指導する必要がある。その際、話す・聴く・書く・読む、の四活動を同時並行的に導入すべきである。また幼児自身の「話したい」「書きたい」という「言葉への意識」と欲求が重要であることが明らかになった。
