哺乳類染色体の構築原理に関する知見を得ることを目的とし、セントロメア領域におけるエピジェネティクス異常の蓄積はセントロメアの機能崩壊を導き、染色体分離異常を引き起こすこと、染色体末端テロメア領域の複製タイミングおよび高次クロマチン構造による複製タイミング制御についての新たな知見、DNA 複製・転写における核マトリックスの役割の提示、DNA損傷時の複製フォーク進行ダイナミクスとその制御機構について、新たなDNA 損傷応答機構を解明する等の成果を上げた。
