総務省統計局へ家計調査の個票の特別利用申請を行い、利用が許可された。この個票データを用いて被雇用労働者ならびに自営業者の所得ならびに消費についての概況を把握した。総消費支出に占める食費支出の比率はエンゲル係数として知られ、経済厚生の水準をはかる指標として古くから使われている。そこで、報告されている所得が等しい被雇用労働者と自営業者の間で平均的にエンゲル係数が等しくなっているかを検証した。得られた結果の解釈についていまだ確定的な結論は得られていないが、これは被雇用労働者と自営業者の報告所得の実質的な価値を計算するための作業であり、被雇用労働者と自営業者の報告所得を比較するために重要である。この計算に基づく分析結果の報告は現在取りまとめ中である。また、自営業者をも含む労働者全体の時間当たり所得分布について、1982年から2002年の就業構造基本調査(総務省統計局)に基づいてその変化を記述した。さらにその変化の裏にある技術変化の影響を抽出する分析を行った。この結果として、分析期間中の賃金分布の安定的な移行は高学歴労働者の増加に代表される供給側の変化と技能偏向的技術変化に代表される需要側の変化の2つの要因が組み合わさることによってもたらされてきたことが明らかになった。この分析結果はおおよそ論文として完成しており、近日中にディスカッションペーパーとして刊行予定である。所得決定に関して関連する研究として、1990年代ならびに2000年代前半の賃金分布の変化を記述した論文ならびに労働組合が賃金率に与える影響についての論文を国際査読誌にそれぞれ発表した。
