歯の表面に付着する細菌の出す酸から歯を守って虫歯を予防できるガラスの薄膜を作る方法を開発した。エナメル質を軽く酸エッチングして液状のガラス成分を塗り、乾いたらその上をオキシドールで濡らして炭酸ガスレーザーを当てると緻密で薄いガラスのフィルムを成膜することができた。また、このガラス薄膜上に強固に結合できる抗菌性、あるいはテフロンのように細菌も付着できないような分子膜を合成することに成功した。
