高齢者を用いて最大努力での大腿屈曲及び伸展筋力、大腿部の血流量、酸化ストレス度を測定した。さらに最大努力による筋運動の効果を検討した。加齢に伴い屈曲及び伸展筋力が低下した。筋力と血流量の間には高い相関が認められた。60歳代と70歳代では、運動前と比較して運動後に屈曲及び伸展筋力、血流量が増大した。60歳代では、運動により酸化ストレス度が減少した。以上の結果より、年齢が若いほど筋運動の効果が顕著に認められること、筋力の増大には血流量の増大が関係していること、運動により活性酸素の産生が抑制されることが明らかになった。
