大気化学的に重要なメタノールについて炭素同位体比を計測する方法を構築した。大気メタノールの重要な発生源の一つであるバイオマス燃焼で放出されるものについて炭素同位体比の特徴づけを行った。結果、バイオマス燃焼で放出されるメタノールは、植物が直接放出するメタノールと同位体的に大きな違いがあることがわかった。このことから炭素同位体比を計測することで、大気中のメタノールが植物由来なのかバイオマス燃焼由来なのかを区別できることを見出した。
