中央アジアの禅観僧壁画に対して, 可視光カットフィルターを用いた撮影を試み, 壁画に対する赤外線写真の有効性を確認した. また, 敦煌における観経変相の『観無量寿経』からの乖離の問題に関する考察を進め, 当時の絵画作製状況の一端を明らかにした. さらに, 石窟の用途に関する考察を行い, 小側室を伴い禅観僧の壁画をもつ石窟のすべてが禅定窟とは必ずしも言い切れないことに注意を喚起した.
