後期旧石器時代の人類の居住あり方を類型的に把握し、国際比較をおこなうことを目的とした。そのために、2007年度には中国、ロシア、北米から、2008年度にはドイツから第一線で活躍する研究者を招聘して国際シンポジウムを開き、さまざまな居住のありかたの報告を受け、年代論とあわせて討議をおこなった。代表者が調査している新潟県小千谷市真人原遺跡の事例の分析を併行して実施し、信濃川中流域のこの遺跡の居住類型を、線形飛び石状の回帰モデルとして理解できる可能性を明らかにした

The late Paleolithic human habitation is characterized by a clear understanding of the type and purpose of international comparison. In 2007, the first line of active researchers in China, North China, and 2008 was recruited, and the report on residence was received and discussed chronologically. The representative investigated and analyzed the case of the original site in Niigata City, Ochiya City, and made clear the possibility of understanding the type of residence, linear flight and stone-like return of the site in the middle of the Chikugawa River basin.
