90年代後半以降、少子化が社会的に認識されてきたが、その背景には女性の雇用が進んだことがあると言われてきた。しかし、適当な支援策があれば、女性が働くことは出生行動に対して負の影響を与えるものではないことも指摘されている。本研究では、少子化対策の中で注目されてきた認可保育所による保育サービスを取り上げ、認可保育所サービスが出生行動に与える影響を検証した。分析においては、認可保育所サービスと出生行動との間の内生性を考慮した分析をおこなった。分析の結果、受け入れ枠の拡大、低年齢児保育の充実、開所時間の延長は、家計の選択する子ども数を増加させることが明らかとなった。また、認可保育所サービスと出生行動との間には内生性が存在し、特に、低年齢児保育の影響をみる場合、内生性を考慮するかどうかで推定結果が異なることも確認された。したがって、認可保育所の定員の増加などを通じて認可保育所のサービスを拡大することによって、認可保育所を利用することの費用を軽減することが家計の出生行動に正の影響を与えることが明らかとなった。
