A study of creating new model of education for Japanese children overseas under the transnational trend-based

本研究基于对日本学生及其家长的访谈，回顾了日本星期六学校目前的角色和功能。研究结果如下。首先，获得日语已成为星期六学校入学的主要目标。其次，这些受访者似乎对周六学校提供的教育给予了积极评价。第三，星期六学校可能会对长期和永久居民的学生的种族认同构成挑战。第四，长期和永久居民的孩子似乎已经养成了一种跨国的教育态度。

This study reviews the current roles and functions of Japanese Saturday schools based on interviews with Japanese students and their parents. The findings are as follows. First, the acquisition of Japanese language has become the dominant objective for enrolling in Saturday schools. Second, these interviewees seemed to evaluate positively the education provided at Saturday schools. Third, Saturday school can present a challenge to the ethnic identity of students who are long term and permanent residents. Fourth, the children of long-term and permanent residents seem to have developed a transnational attitude toward education.
