本研究では、アジアの日本人学校で学ぶ日本人児童生徒がどの程度在住国の人々や文化に触れ、どのような経験や学習をしているのかを明らかにするために、2022年度はまず、海外子女教育振興財団の刊行する海外子女文芸作品コンクール作品集『地球に学ぶ』1979～2021) の計41集より、アジアの日本人学校の児童生徒の作品を収集し、整理・分析した。その結果、1980年前半には現地を理解すべき、という規範はあるものの、現地との接触は少なく、日本人学校という環境が偏見を助長している場合すらあって、現地の人や文化を劣位に見なす作文が複数あることがわかった。1980年後半からは、特定・固有の現地の人への言及や肯定的言及が増加し、日本人学校での現地理解教育をテーマにした作文が増加した。2000年前後には、植民地支配や戦争に関する教育が複数の学校で行われ、自分事として葛藤を体験していることを記す作文が現れた。こうした研究成果は、「作文にみるアジア在住海外子女の現地理解」として、2022年9月に日本教育社会学会で口頭発表した。アジアの日本人学校の卒業生に対してインタビューを行うために、日本赤十字看護大学研究倫理審査委員会の審査を受けて、認められた。1名について、インタビューを実施した。次に、アジアの日本人学校では、どのような理念のもとに、いかなる現地理解教育を行っているのかを明らかにするために、東京学芸大学国際教育センター『在外教育施設における指導実践記録集』（1978～2021) 計42集より、アジアの日本人学校の実践記録を収集し、整理した。さらに、アジアの日本人学校での現地理解教育や日本人児童生徒の現地接触や理解についての先行文献を、異文化間教育、国際理解教育、教育社会学、移民教育などの領域で検討し、レビューした。
