枯草菌のコンデンシンのSMCとnon-SMCサブユニットの組換え蛋白質を用いて、機能領域を同定しそれらの生化学的性質を調査した。この結果、(1)バクテリアのnon-SMCサブユニットScpAは、シャペロンであるScpBの結合によって、その分子内構造変化が誘導されていること、(2)その際にScpA内のドメイン間領域が、コンデンシン複合体の形成と解離の制御に重要な役割を示していることを見いだした。
