メダカ性決定遺伝子DMYのターゲットとなる遺伝子を見つけるために、近縁種で性分化タイミングが若干遅いルソンメダカを利用し、性分化直後の孵化日にメダカでのみ発現し、同時期のルソンメダカでは発現の見られない遺伝子を探索した。その結果メダカ雄でのみ発現しているおよそ720bpの遺伝子断片を見いだした。この遺伝子断片の塩基配列を調べたところ、既知の遺伝子データベースには類似したものが存在せず、新たな遺伝子が見つかったと考えられる。
