私どもが発見・確立した劇症1型糖尿病患者の剖検膵組織(合計3症例)を分析し、RNAレベルでエンテロウイルスの発現を認めた症例が存在すること、膵島浸潤細胞の主体がCD68陽性マクロファージであり、3症例すべてにおいて90%以上の膵島に浸潤していること、膵島に浸潤しているマクロファージにtoll-like receptor(TLR)-3, 7, 8, 9が発現していることを明らかにした。
