本研究では消化管粘膜免疫におけるCD1d およびNKT 細胞の役割について検討を行った. CD1d ノックアウトマウスを無菌化して経口的に大腸菌や黄色ブドウ球菌を接種後, 腸管内の菌数の変化を調べたところ, 野生型マウスに比べて腸管内の急激な菌数の増加が認められた. 腸管の電顕像においてCD1d ノックアウトマウスはパネート細胞内の分泌顆粒が減少していることが明らかとなり、NKT 細胞がデフェンシンなどの抗菌物質の分泌に影響を与え, 腸管の粘膜免疫に重要な役割を果たしていることが示唆された.
