これまでGM2ガングリオシドーシスにおける中枢神経系での炎症は糖脂質の蓄積でおきると考えられていたが、本研究により、脳に侵入した自己抗体が関与することが示唆された。この結果から免疫反応を抑える治療法が有効であると考えられたため、疾患モデルマウスにステロイド投与による治療を試みた。しかし、検討した条件では炎症や病態の改善はみられなかった。今後、投与量、回数などのさらなる至適化が必要だと考えられた。
