ジェイムズ・ジョイスの長編『ユリシーズ』を研究対象とし、人間身体、及びテクノロジーの表象を精査して、『ユリシーズ』における身体論的研究という新しい研究領域の可能性を示した。特にエピソードごとの傾向、及び登場人物と身体表象との間に見られる相関関係を分析することにより、作品が持つ膨大な人体部位のカタログとしての側面を明らかにすると共に、広範な人間群像に関して豊富な身体表象が積み重ねられる一方、主要な登場人物の身体表象に関しては寡黙が貫かれ、身体的存在の確証が読者に十全に与えられずにいることなど、身体表象を巡る作家の特殊な偏向を明らかにした。
