本研究の目的は、政策や司法プロセスによってもたらされる暴動の被害者への補償・賠償が、住民と国家との和解にどのような効果をもたらしているか、タイ南部国境地域の事例から明らかにすることである。タイ南部国境地域における暴動問題は、イスラーム王国がタイに併合された歴史により、反政府組織と国軍・警察の衝突が2004年から継続し、5千人を越す死者数への注目とともに国際的な研究が進められる途上にある。当該地域において、タイ国軍の起こした住民の死亡事件後に行政機関によって行われている金銭補償の研究に関しては、これまで報道等でしか情報を得ることができていなかったため、平成26年度は夏季のフィールドワークによってその実態を明らかにすることを主眼とした。それ以外にも、本研究で対象とするタイ国軍の武力鎮圧と強制移送によって78人が死亡した2004年の「タクバイ事件」やその他の軍起こした住民死亡負傷事件の被害者・遺族への接触と、被害者・遺族を対象にしたアンケートに向けての事実確認、予備アンケート実施を現地弁護士の協力とともに行い、今後の研究の布石とした。また、平成26年度は、研究会でのアウトリーチ活動にも取り組み、そのうちバンコクで開催された研究会ではタイに駐在する日系の報道機関の記者を中心に日本では情報の少ない当該研究地域に関して報告を行なった。今後は、この結果をもとに本格的な被害者・遺族へのアンケートの実施と、現在執筆している「インラック政権期の補償政策」や「タイにおける死因究明制度」に関する論文を投稿する。また、2015年7月に開催される国際学会（International Convention of Asian Studies, オーストラリア）で発表を行うことが決定している他、積極的に国際学会での発表を行っていく。
