本研究は、地域高齢者が日常的に取り組めるような「噛みごたえのある固形食物」を用いた新たな咀嚼・嚥下機能維持・改善プログラムを開発する目的で実施している。平成28年度の計画として、予備調査①・②を行い、継続可能な咀嚼・嚥下機能訓練の訓練内容を確立し、嚥下体操・口腔体操のモデルとなる映像を作成予定である。平成28年度の研究実施状況は、プレパイロットスタディとして、地域高齢者の摂食機能の実態調査も兼ねて、口腔ケア・嚥下体操の指導が地域の高齢者に対してどのような影響を及ぼすのか、健康管理への意識の変化の探索的介入研究を実施した。研究テーマ「口腔ケアおよび嚥下体操の指導がもたらす地域高齢者の摂食機能に対する健康管理への意識の変化」を倫理審査申請後、介入を行った前後で調査を行った結果、地域在住の高齢者72名から有効回答が得られた。介入前のアンケート結果から、唾液腺マッサージ、嚥下体操の認知度は約40パーセント程度と低く、地域高齢者の多くはウォーキングや体操等の健康維持のための運動を実施しているが、摂食機能の維持・向上に対する健康管理行動は、歯磨きにとどまっていた。介入後には、歯磨きを実施しようとする回数が有意に増加するなど、健康意識の高まりが認められた。現在この研究結果に関して、論文執筆中である。この研究により、高齢者への指導を行う際には、ゆっくりと時間をかけて丁寧に説明を行ったり、大勢に対するよりも数名程度に研究スタッフが1名がついて、研究に関する説明や指導を行うようにする、また理解を確認しながら進めていくなどの留意事項が明らかになったため、予備調査①・②で活かしていくことにする。また予備調査①・②に関して、倫理審査委員会の承認を得ており、リクルート活動中であり、平成29年度7月～8月にかけて実施予定である。
