神経芽腫をはじめとする種々の小児悪性腫瘍臨床例に関し、多剤耐性遺伝子の発現を検討し、化学療法前後で比較した。その結果MDR1、MRP1の発現は種々の小児腫瘍で認められ、またその発現は化学療法後の増強し、LRPは化学療法前はいずれの腫瘍にも発現は認められなかったが、化学療法を行うことにおり肝芽腫、腎芽腫において発現が新たに出現することが判明した。抗癌剤によりこれら種々の耐性遺伝子が同時に発現亢進するため、これらのうち一つのみを抑制しても抗癌剤の耐性の低下は得られず、期待されるような臨床効果が得られないと考えられ、RNA干渉による多剤耐性遺伝子抑制の治療への応用は困難であることが判明した
