現在、世界には「神経障害性疼痛」に苦しむ患者が千数百万人も存在し、救われ難い痛みに苦しんでいる。我々の研究チームは、脊髄のミクログリア細胞に過剰発現するP2X4受容体が神経因性疼痛発症課程における重要な分子であることを提示しているが、P2X4受容体の過剰発現メカニズムは不明であった。本研究は、P2X4受容体遺伝子はその上流領域配列によってレチノイン酸受容体の標的遺伝子となる潜在的可能性を示し、このメカニズムによって脊髄ミクログリアにおけるP2X4受容体発現増強が引き起こされ、如いては病態の形成に関与していることを示すものである。
