熱帯性高地地域(セントラル州ニェリ県)において、主として土砂移動の発現する雨季における降雨強度とこれに対応する土壌水分量変化とに関する観測データを引き続き取得し、また具体的な地形変化速度を明らかにするための経年地形測量を行った。また、同地域における斜面物質移動プロセス解明に関する現地調査・年代測定試料分析を継続した。当地域では表層崩壊等による斜面更新においてほぼ10^2年程度で各回の浸蝕量(斜面削剥量)が1～数m程度、大規模ガリー形成など線的浸蝕の発現においては10^1～10^2年程度の時間スケールにて数～10m程度の浸蝕量での斜面物質移動が生じていることを明らかにした。またこのような地形変化プロセスおよび土地環境条件に対する現地農民の認識に関する調査においては、地形現象や土壌に関わるキクユ語の把握整理を行い、とくに地形条件・土壌タイプと農耕好適度に関わる現状認識に対する聞き取りデータを引き続き取得した。半乾燥-亜湿潤地域(リフトバレー州ライキピア県)においては、シートウォッシュ堆積物に関する表層地質調査・年代測定試料分析を継続させた。広域的な斜面更新は、2-3ka前後から発現するシートウォッシュによるものであり、その浸蝕量(斜面削剥量)はA層土壌を削剥する程度の量と小さい。しかしウォッシュの集中やガリー形成域など線的浸蝕の卓越する箇所においては、10^2年程度の時間スケールにおいて1m内外の浸蝕量の見積もられる場所もみられる。上記のように互いに隣接する両地域では、主として気候条件の違いにより、時間オーダーや斜面プロセスそのもの、および浸蝕速度に差異があり、斜面後退速度の違いに大きく寄与していると考えられる。また同一地域内においても、土地条件や環境利用のあり方等の違いや転換によって、斜面削剥の性質やその速度等の変化が生じることを踏まえ、土地利用計画の策定等を行う必要性を指摘した。
